– Thats how I would like to create my environment, putting building on one of the islands which are connected to each other.

– This gave me idea of creating a restaurant with more not accurate / simple outcome, with curved edges and walls to make it look like this is based in city like in GTA world.

– These game environments helped me to me choose which natural and mechanical object should I make in Cinema 4D.

– I was always interested at games like GTA where there is an open world and you can do whatever you want to, thats why I wanted to create similar outcome with additional small objects.

Week by Week Outline

Week 1

Firstly I have planned to design basic game structure and list what will be included etc. buildings, shops. Then I was looking for some ideas to help to choose what environment I want to create, I get it from other game environments like GTA series for example GTA Vice City. As well I was looking on the game levels with 3d objects.

Week 2

Then after making project summary ideas founded on websites, I make a list of 3D objects which are going to be presented in the game environment.

Week 3

Then I have start to model buildings in C4D and the main road and I was adding some texture created in Photoshop (sky, ground, street + trees with backlight)

Week 4

Layout and modelling sketched outcomes in Photoshop / Adobe Illustrator and adding some texture on it.

Week 5

In the next week I start to adjust and model new inorganic and organic elements of the game level like:

  • Trees with the backlight
  • Grass outcomes made it with hair brush tool
  • Landscape with big area
  • Sky
  • Ground / Floor
  • Street (clean and destroyed) – texturing
  • Bus stop
  • Office
  • Houses

Week 6

I was focus on model structural elements

  • Making 3D objects etc.: houses, Trains / Metro Streets, Lights
  • Making small objects, bins, signs, windows and doors

Week 7

In this week I had finished part of my 3d outcomes of an environment and I added new textures to objects. Additionally I begin to construct and fix detailed objects to look realistic.

Week 8

Adding more realistic texture onto the buildings and the new environment.

Week 9

Creating some more textures in Photoshop using brushes etc.

Then I was checking all outcomes of the game environment, to check if they are correct and what should I improve.

Week 11

Finishing with modelling 3d shapes and adding physical sky which gives shadows and lighting of the environment. As well adding plugins using sIBL software page and Loader in Cinema 4d.

Week 12

Finishing with texturizing and titles of the game environment. Modelled shapes are imported to UDK or Unity that people could run the game like any other. (without udk)

Week 13 

Getting ready for the end of the year show where we putting up all of our best work, organising the room. Finishing the final major project idea and making iBook with all of my best work and making the final major project renders (images) videos and animation. Getting ready to start the END OF THE YEAR SHOW.

Section 1

Working theme: Games Industry – 3D Game Level

Game title – I have chosen to name my game “KAIENOX” because it sounds otherworldly and it does not match with any other game titles. Then I will make a suitable font style of the letters of the game title where it will be joined with textured background. They will come up on the screen before launching the game, additionally I will create a mini-menu for example that others could change the levels or change any other options.

Genre – Adventure / Role-playing

Platform – PC / Macintosh

Towards producing I will be working on 3D game environment, designed for single player mode. The player will have opportunity to visit the city where they can discover organic and mechanical objects. The graphics will be based on fourth / fifth generation of video games, with better sound, landscape and textures condition. The game will have basic ambient sounds (walk, wind etc.) with beautiful open-world environment with huge and small background elements like houses, offices or shops, even a simple objects like bus stop or companies. There will be simple shadowing with ambient occlusion and lights. It’s going to be set in contemporary time, with graphics similar to GTA III.

Section 2

I will look at the old trending games, then I will read some gaming magazines and will look up on the architectural designs in game environments. As well I will need to focus on other game geographic landscapes and conceptual game art where I could get ideas from. Additionally watch some youtube gameplay videos.

Game artists

  • Aaron Garbut – Is the artistic director of the GTA series. He is a part of the Rockstar North team, which is located in Edinburgh. His style can be described as very motion and realistic.

Section 3

Initial ideas will be done by drawing sketches and digital concepts done with Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Modelled shapes will be made in Cinema 4D and imported to UDK or Unity that people could run the game like any other. Textures will be created in Photoshop and the maps will be made with some tested plugins. My early ideas was creating 3D interiors in Adobe Photoshop, Cinema 4D or Adobe Illustrator. I was actually doing sketches of perspective drawings and I will take these digitised concepts and will add up to the new ones.

Section 4

I will run tests at different points during the process of creation form of Alpha and Beta tests. Alpha will be showed to classroom tutors and friends, beta will be released other gamers for feedback.
